Coincidence? I think not!

Coincidence? I think not!

I don’t know much about my heritage. I come from a long line of hermits. My grandmother also told me that if we invited the relatives over they might try to stay and we just couldn’t have that now could we? Of course not!

So out of curiosity a while back I did this DNA ancestry thing and got this cool map (on the right). As the database grows the results change slightly as they become more accurate. I used to be Libyan but now it appears my origins are more Sudanese currently (although I was having fun being Libyan).

Anyway… the other day I was reading about Gypsies, mostly because my husband is tired of moving furniture and says I need to learn how to settle myself down somewhere. I was scrolling along when suddenly I found this map (on the left). Whoa…. goosebumps…. looks familiar.

So… there you have it. I’m a Sudanese/Libyan/Finnish Gypsy and I’ll take my damn furniture wherever I want to! Ha! But don’t invite the relatives over. They will want to stay. I’m redecorating in rich gypsy tones now…

Okay, tell me more about the DNA thing? Hermit, gypsy, furniture – good GAWD we sound like we could be related!

It’s cool! You pay for a kit and they send you a package with a swab and you swipe your cheek cells and send it in! They then compare your genetic mutations with everyone else’s and look for patterns, similarities, etc. and then compare that to the existence of frequencies of these mutations to determine areas where your ancestors most likely originated from! I’m trying to talk my brother/dad into doing the male side of our family since females can only do the maternal side due to the fact that you’re carrying your mother’s mitochondrial DNA only 🙂 I used this site:
