Baby Goats Part 2! Petunia

16 Apr

So today was finally Petunia’s day to give birth! My friend Terror and I had snuck away while our girls were at dance practice to run to my house for baby goat snuggles and when we got here we found that our youngest and most annoying greeter dog was MIA. This made me suspicious there might be some activity down at the pens that little miss curious greeter dog named Rose might be interested in so I left Terror with Batman and Sunflower and went for a peek. Sure enough Petunia had recently given birth to twins!

Motherhood seemed to have come quite naturally to Marigold, however poor Petunia was having a tougher time with things. Her tiny little babies were still covered with quite a bit of afterbirth and she was looking at them like she really didn’t want to deal with it and it was starting to dry and becoming an interference with standing up. They were giving that a pretty good go and working on getting to the udder which she was also not very keen on. The wind was blowing and quite cold so we decide it might be a good idea to move them into a warmer location to work on the bonding efforts.

Petunia continued to be a little testy about these strange creatures working on her udder but with a little help from the Hubby they finally got some nursing under their belts and built a little strength. After that they were voracious and were able to back momma into a corner and really go to town. Poor Petunia has had no choice now but to give in and it looks like things are going to work out fine.

At one point our house cat decided to peek over the pen at what this strangeness was. That gave Petunia the snorts. At least she’s protective! Baby names to come still! The black and white is a buck and the little brown is a doe!
