We’ve made it to the median! Our 7th Anniversary!

16 Feb

Seven years ago this poor guy had a lapse of judgement in Las Vegas, Nevada and he hasn’t gotten any wiser yet.

If you want to get technical about statistics we probably had a lot of cards stacked against us. I’d been married and divorced already and brought a child to our marriage with me. We came from families with substantially different religious backgrounds. We dated a relatively short time in the scheme of things before getting hitched. The diamond on my wedding ring is a marquis shape. There are probably a million reasons why any marriage doesn’t work, but we’re still here!

There have been sad times. A miscarriage shortly after we got married tested our strength and brought a lot of tears. There have been times we’ve had to make choices that ended jobs and involved moving and leaving behind lots of friendships and memories.

There have been mad times. These usually involve trying to do a construction project together (and there have been lots of those)! Some things such as construction and working cattle can definitely test your marital fortitude. Oh and there was the time that I dreamed he had an affair with the gal at the tire shop (not an actual existing person) and I woke up pretty angry. He still won’t let me live that one down! Oh, and moving… moving will make a husband mad too….

There have been incredibly happy times. Many, many, many more than I could ever list and they far outweigh all of the sad and mad times. We’ve increased our wonderful family to include a Grady Le who is the craziest little guy ever but made us complete. We’ve made great memories in our travels. Ronan says his personal favorite was the time I talked him into going with me and driving across the country for a conference. Nothing like a road trip that takes you through the Smokey Mountains and to the Biltmore for romance! We’ve whitewater rafted in Colorado and kayaked in Virginia. We’ve made a home together and several business ventures. We’ve volunteered together and coached together. We spend our weekends at home working on projects and cooking together (which usually means he peels some potatoes or chops something and I cook but it works)!

Ronan deserves a lot of credit for the success of our marriage.

He supports my crazy decisions about jobs and school and business ventures. He works side by side with me when I decide we need to move a mountain of dirt and rocks to build flowerbeds (ok, he works a whole lot harder on those projects than I do). He built a barn, not for his tools, but for his daughter’s rabbits.

He claims to not the house cat but I’m pretty sure they cuddle when no one else is around. If nothing else he tolerates the cat because the rest of us like him.

We live right by my parents and he hasn’t killed me or his in-laws yet, even with a tractor available to hide the bodies. This is quite a feat because we can all be quite demanding.

What’s next? Hopefully many more years of memories! It’s kind of funny to me that here at year seven we’re about to embark on a new journey. Giving up the security of my job and starting a new business venture that will allow me spend more of my time at home and with our kids. I sure couldn’t do it without Ronan. Those of you that enjoy reading about my crazy projects have him to thank. My greatest enabler.

This post is for you babe. Love of my life.

Sorry everyone… Sometimes you’ve just got to reflect on some of the mushy stuff in life. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming. More goats, chickens, and DIY projects to come!
